Hullett House Wedding • Nini & Rob

Hullett House at 1881 Heritage is definitely one of my favorite locations for weddings and portrait sessions, so I was undoubtedly excited when Nini and Rob wanted me to be their wedding photographer! The wedding venue has a significant history as the past site of the Royal Marine Police during Hong Kong’s colonial days. It’s definitely a unique place to say “I do”.

The happy couple had family and friends flying in from all over the world, including Australia, Taiwan, and the US, so it made sense that that their wedding date was near Christmas time. Not only was it easier for their guests to attend their nuptials, the nearby areas were all decked out on wonderful Christmas lights.

See the love and laughter from their wedding day below!

In the morning, Nini and Rob actually got ready at the Marco Polo Hotel, just a quick walk away from the wedding venue in Tsim Sha Tsui. The groom and groomsmen prepared themselves in a separate room, then everyone congregated in the bridal suite for a Chinese tea ceremony. Aren’t they adorable when they first saw each other that morning?

We planned for some time for couple’s portraits before the wedding ceremony. What fun to stroll in the busy streets of Tsim Sha Tsui in full wedding outfits, catching the eyes of all the passersby!

With their late afternoon ceremony at Hullett House, I knew that we wouldn’t have much time for couple’s photos afterwards, so we planned for some quiet moments at the gardens of Hullett House before guests arrived. I loved shooting along the tree-lined path just next to the hotel. It looked as if we were transported out of the city and into a secret garden!

Though the weather was overcast that day, the temperature was just right for Nini and Rob to hang out outside. It was also perfectly flattering light. A lot of times my clients get worried about cloudy weather affecting their photos, but really, they look the best in this diffused light!

Nini and Rob chose to have an intimate wedding ceremony in the Champagne Gallery at Hullett House. Only their family and close friends attended, and it was nice to see their touching moments at such close proximity. There were tears (of course happy tears) and genuine laughters from everyone. I stealthily snuck around the room to snap candid photos; I hope my photos will help the couple remember these precious moments for years to come!

Day turned into night, and soon enough it was time for the reception dinner. The party grew as more guests arrived, and it moved on to the Parlour at the Hullett House. The head tables were set inside, while additional tables spilled out to the romantic verandah surrounded by the venue’s signature archways and wooden shutters.

Nini and Rob kept the decorations to a minimum to allow the beautiful venue to speak for itself. The  “East meets West” decor, including Chinese lanterns, French-inspired wallpaper, and colonial architecture, was the perfect reflection of the couple’s story – a British young man and a gorgeous Taiwanese lady who fell in love in Hong Kong.

Congratulations Nini and Rob! It was such a pleasure working with you both and I wish you both a life of happiness!
